A British fashion brand known for designing and manufacturing stylish line of apparels, Burberry was founded by Thomas Burberry in 1856. Apprentice at draper, Thomas Burberry was 21 years old when he created the brand Burberry by launching its first shop in Basingstoke region of Hampshire, England. From being an independent company to becoming a Group that trade on London Stock Exchange, Burberry has a long history to it. Today Burberry has its stores in UK and various European countries, while the products can also be purchased online. Burberry has its presence in almost every major country.
After opening its first store in 1856, Thomas Burberry also invented water resistant and hard wearing fabric called Gabardine. Burberry's next store launch came in 1891 in Haymarket, London. This store also became corporate headquarter of Burberry. In 1914, Burberry designed coat for officers which not only became a hit among civilians, but are also considered as the inspiration behind the contemporary 'Trench Coat'. Burberry Check is one of the major fashion achievements of this brand. The classic Burberry check, also known as Haymarket Check with its tan, black and red check pattern was first used in 1924 in the Trenchcoat. This classic Burberry check Trenchcoat became a part of many big movies with celebrities like Humphrey Bogart, Peter Sellers and Audrey Hepburn wearing them.
Burberry started as a fashion house manufacturing clothing, but today it also has accessories and fragrance in its list of products.
