Banana Republic is a stylish clothing brand founded by Ziegler couple Mel and Patricia Ziegler, in 1978. The couple came up with idea of creating their own fashion brand after they experimented with a second hand British Burma Jacket, purchased from a local store. Mel and Patricia made changes to the jacket to give it a less military touch, which was appreciated by their friends.

Banana Republic made safari and travel clothing a fashion in the era between 1978 and 1983. The growing success of Banana Republic made it purchase the GAP brand. With the safari design not being able to entice younger generation, Banana Republic started focusing on modern and urban clothing as well as added accessories to their product line. Today this amazing fashion brand is an international name and sells clothing, accessories, sleepwear, lingerie, body care products and perfumes all around the world.
